Kitten Care chapter three

Chapter Three- caring for a kitten

After obtaining the correct supplies, the next step is using them to care for your new pet.

EATING
Your kitten could need 2-4 feedings a day. After the kitten is 4-6 months old, start giving it less food, until they are eating 2 meals a day.
Depending on its age, it can eat dry food or tinned food. It should tell you on the label how old the kitten needs to be to eat the food. If your kitten is eating dry food, it will need more water. Remember to give your cat something to drink too!

SLEEPING
Your kitten will sleep in the cat basket. If the kitten is having trouble settling down, you could put a warm hot watter bottle in their bed- this will remind them of sleeping with their mother and will make them calmer.
Kittens don't need lots of warm blankets, like us; your kitten should be fine without any.

PLAYING
Kittens love to play with things!
Your kitten will probably start playing with an toys you leave out for it.
Cats love practicing hunting by chasing pieces of string you drag around for them to follow! They also like  chasing balls across the floor!

USING THE LITTER TRAY
The kitten may not know what a litter tray is, or how to use it! Make sure you show it where the litter tray is when you first bring your kitten home. And try not to be too angry if the kitten does a little "accident" on the floor- the kitten might just be a bit nervous. Try to show the kitten that you are not happy and train it not to do this any more.

Now that you know how to look after your new kitten, the next chapter will explain some kitten habits and behaviour.
